Many people prefer using washable bed pads instead of disposable ones. Washable bed pads are much more economical than disposable ones, which can only be used once. Quality washable bed wetting pads can be washed, and then reused, hundreds of times.
Patients have an easier time falling asleep when using washable bed pads, since they are the most comfortable kind of bed pads to be found.
They are very secure, and stay pretty much put in place under the individual.
Washable underpads are better for the environment, since they can be used over and over again. When the cloth bed pad becomes damp, you can simply toss it into the washing machine.
Another factor people appreciate about washable bed pads is its high quality composition. Disposable bed pads are oftentimes paper-thin in comparison to the thick plushness of washable bed pads.
Washable Underpads: How to Choose
When searching for washable underpads or reusable chux pads, there are three questions to ask yourself:
- Is it absorbent enough?
The amount of liquid a washable incontinence pad can contain is mainly dependant on how absorbent the washable incontinence bed pad is, and therefore, the absorbency level of an underpad is an extremely important factor to check out before making your purchase.
The heavier the incontinence, the more fluid retention the pad needs to have. An overnight reusable incontinence pad needs to be able to absorb at least 400 milliliters (about 2 cups) of fluid to adequately prevent leakage, so when looking for a washable underpad for overnight, make sure it can contain at least that much.
Of course, every person will be different, but as a general rule, adults generally produce the highest volume of liquid at the fastest flow rate, and therefore need very absorbent reusable underpads.
- How big is it?
Measure your mattress, and then try to find a bed pad that will cover as much of it as possible. The reusable incontinence bed pad should, at the very least, cover 6 inches in every direction of the “target area.” However, more coverage is always ideal, since it affords you room to move, and in case you toss or turn in your sleep, you want to make sure as much of the bed as possible is covered.
- What’s it made from?
You want to make sure the washable waterproof bed pad is made of a comfortable material, so that when you lie down on it, it won’t cause skin irritation or bed sores. Another thing to check is if the back of the pad is non-slip, and will stay in place.
If you suffer from incontinence, it is possible to keep your linen and furniture in great condition without spending a fortune on disposables! Choose washable chux pads for the ultimate in comfort and quality at an even better price.
