The primary objective of all A&D ointments is to prevent moisture from penetrating the skin. It helps treat and prevent minor wounds, burns, rashes, dry skin, and other forms of skin irritation. Emollient substances, including Lanolin, Petrolatum, Vitamin A, and Vitamin D, are included in these prescribed medications to help keep the skin supple and hydrated.

Importance of A&D Ointments

Vitamins A&D ointment calms and hydrates the skin while also warding off any potential irritation. You can use A&D on minor burns, scrapes, dry skin, or wound care. In addition to protecting the skin from the elements, it helps the skin to retain its suppleness. Even though vitamin A&D is excellent for keeping the skin safe, it won’t help you avoid getting sick because it has no antibacterial characteristics.

Usage of Vitamin A&D Ointments

Many components in over-the-counter products might produce bad responses on young, new, or open skin; therefore, it’s decisive to research the contents if you have sensitive skin before using the product.

If there is no history of hypersensitivity to any of the ointment’s components, apply it liberally on the skin (after sanitizing with hand sanitizers or hand sanitizer wipes) that has been thoroughly cleaned and dried, and do so as often as required.

  • In addition to relieving diaper rash, A&D Ointment also helps prevent skin irritation.
  • After getting inked, many tattoo parlors advise customers to use A&D Ointment.
  • It is also often used as a topical therapy for burns and injuries.
  • Similarly, after a chemical peel, your skin is more vulnerable to environmental aggressors; thus, A&D can help shield it.

After careful use, place it in a safe container or hand sanitizer holder.

Vitamin A&D Ointment Primary Ingredients

  • Lanolin

The sheep’s wool is processed to extract lanolin, a fatty, waxy byproduct. Lanolin’s emollient characteristics make it popular in hair treatments, hand creams, lip products, and moisturizers. Emollients inhibit moisture loss through the skin, known as transepidermal water loss (TEWL), and leave the skin feeling soft and supple. The skin can retain its natural moisture levels without additional external moisture by forming a barrier against evaporation.

While it’s true that lanolin has a calming effect, it also has the potential to trigger allergic reactions in some people. Eczema-prone individuals may experience heightened sensitivity to lanolin.

  • Petrolatum

Petrolatum, sometimes known as petroleum jelly, is another type of emollient. Weight-wise and in terms of its occlusive qualities, petrolatum is comparable to lanolin. However, it is made from petrolatum hydrocarbons rather than sheep’s wool. Lip balms and ointments often contain petrolatum because it is inexpensive and widely available.

Petrolatum is widely used for skincare treatments due to its inexpensive cost, ready availability, and highly extended shelf life. While petrolatum probably won’t give you rashes, it could worsen your acne.

Vitamin A&D Ointment Secondary Ingredients

  • Cod Liver Oil

A&D Ointment comes from cod liver oil, which contains both vitamins. Cod liver oil offers the highest content of vitamins A&D and essential fatty omega-3 acids. Vitamins A&D are anti-inflammatory and antioxidant.

  • Supplementary Ingredients: Fragrance, Light Mineral Oil, Microcrystalline Wax, and Paraffin

Fragrance, light mineral oil, microcrystalline wax, and paraffin are a small part of the product. In A&D ointment, the fragrance employed is not indicated and can be used to mask the scent of lanolin. Light mineral oil, microcrystalline wax, and paraffin are all petroleum products. Paraffin increases the thickness of the ointment.
