Medline's Story

It all started back in 1910 when A.L. Mills founded a garment factory that made aprons for the stock yards. Nuns working as nurses and seamstresses at a nearby hospital approached Mills about making surgical gowns and nurse uniforms. By making the medical garments for the hospital, the nuns could spend more time caring for their patients.

A.L’s son, Irving, took over the business in 1930. During World War II, the pace of medical care rushed forward creating unprecedented demand for medical supplies. In response, Irving refocused all of his business efforts on making medical garments. He eventually expanded into general medical supplies, giving birth to the Mills Hospital Supply company.

Today, as a fourth-generation family-owned medical supply company, Medline Industries, Inc. helps healthcare systems around the world provide the highest quality of care and safety by delivering world-class medical products and proven clinical solutions across the continuum of care. As both a manufacturer and distributor, Medline supplies 350,000+ medical products at the lowest price possible to help make healthcare affordable for all.
