Calmoseptine ointment is a great skin care product offering both healing and protective properties. With ingredients that soothe, protect, and promote skin repair, Calmoseptine cream is like a 3-in-1 product for wounds, rashes, skin abrasions and/or irritations, burns, hemorrhoids, and more.

What is Calmoseptine Ointment?

Calmoseptine is a multi-use ointment used as a moisture barrier and protectant on the skin. Initially developed for diaper rash, Calmoseptine ointment uses include treating other skin conditions, including burns, cuts, wound drainage, and urinary or fecal incontinence irritation. Calmoseptine ointment can protect, soothe, and help promote the healing of various skin irritations.

What is Calmoseptine Ointment Used For?

Calmoseptine places a barrier between the skin and moisture or other outside irritants, such as diaper rash, urinary or fecal incontinence, burns, and cuts. Calmoseptine uses include:

  • As a barrier around feeding tube sites.
  • For protection around colostomy and other stoma sites.
  • For relief of skin irritations from cancer radiation treatments.
  • For healing and comfort from pain, burning, and itching of pressure sores.
  • In skin folds and other areas that are subject to moisture build-up.
  • Calmoseptine for hemorrhoids and anal fistulas offers relief from pain and itching.

Calmoseptine ointment works to:

  • Temporarily relieve anal or vaginal itching or irritation.
  • Soothe dry skin irritation.
  • Wick moisture away from draining wounds.
  • Offer relief from pain or burning skin irritations.
  • Promote healing of skin irritations and wounds.

Calmoseptine for Diaper Rash

This topical ointment is highly effective in treating and preventing diaper rash. It can be applied directly to the affected area to soothe skin (thanks to the menthol in it) and create a barrier (with its zinc oxide) to protect from wetness and chafing. Its formulation also offers reduced inflammation and healthier skin. In a study of Calmoseptine ointment versus Desitin, Calmoseptine proved to be the superior cream for healing and relieving diaper rash symptoms.

Other Calmoseptine Uses for Babies

Calmoseptine ointment uses for baby skin go far beyond the diaper area. Calmoseptine cream can help promote healing for minor wounds, such as blisters, skin rashes and reactions to outside stimulants.

Calmoseptine for Eczema

Calmoseptine cream can be used for eczema and has been found to heal irritation more quickly than comparable products.

Calmoseptine for Yeast Infections

Calmoseptine can be used for yeast infections. Using Calmoseptine for yeast infections can help counter the symptoms of itching and discomfort. The cream is also helpful for menopausal symptoms, such as the itching and dryness that occurs with hormonal imbalances.

How to Use Calmoseptine

Calmoseptine lotion should never be used in or around the eyes, on deep cuts, wounds, or mucous membranes. The ointment can be used around the mouth, lips, and anal and vaginal areas.

When applying Calmoseptine, thoroughly cleanse the area with warm, mildly soapy water and dry the affected area by patting it dry or allowing it to air dry. When applying Calmoseptine, only a thin layer of ointment is needed. When using around colostomy or other stoma sites, apply only a thin layer of Calmoseptine cream and rub it into the skin thoroughly.

When reapplication is needed, wipe the affected area, and apply as needed. The existing application of ointment does not have to be cleaned entirely away from the skin; it is okay to apply new ointment over the remains of the ointment after wiping the area.

How Often Can Calmoseptine Be Applied?

Calmoseptine can be applied as often as needed to protect the skin from irritants or moisture and to relieve the associated symptoms of these ailments, but it usually only needs to be applied two to four times a day. While Calmoseptine ointment can be used for diaper rash, it is not recommended to use Calmoseptine ointment for use on premature infants. For infants less than one-month-old, do not apply the ointment more than four times a day, and never over more than 1/8 of the infant’s body mass.

Calmoseptine vs. Other Skin Protectants

We carry several skin protectant product types that are comparable to Calmoseptine. These products include;

  • A & D Ointment - A & D ointment is a healing ointment that has both vitamin A and Vitamin D. It has similar uses to that of Calmoseptine cream.
  • Petroleum/Vaseline Products - These products are good for minor diaper rashes and other rashes and as a moisture barrier and can be used on most areas of the body, but Calmoseptine will have better healing properties in most cases.
  • Barrier Creams - Barrier creams such as Aquaphor and Desitin are Calmoseptine alternatives that can be used for dry skin, blisters, diaper rash, and other topical skin ailments.
  • Zinc Oxide - Zinc Oxide is one of the main ingredients in Calmoseptine, but can also be bought as a cream of its own. Zinc Oxide comes in an ointment and can also be bought as a spray. Zinc Oxide promotes healing and is a skin barrier to moisture and other irritants.
