Now is the time to find out more about knee and ankle support products so that you can decide which to choose.

Ankle Support

Ankle support braces stabilize the ankle joint, and stop it from rolling, straining or twisting. They reduce chronic or temporary pain in the ankle, especially when walking, playing sports, or when involved in other activities that necessitate ankle movement. Ankle supports also protect against re-injury of the ankle during and after the recovery process; they allow the ankle to heal without ligaments stretching or tearing.

They are most commonly used by athletes, seniors, and other individuals with weak ankle muscle.

Ankle support braces are available in many different colors and sizes. They are usually thin, breathable and lightweight enough that they can be worn comfortably with shoes while going about your daily activities.

Different types of ankle wraps, braces and ankle sleeves provide the wearer with varying levels of support. A few kinds of ankle support products include a type with laces that can be adjusted to provide you with the fit that offers the ideal amount of controlled freedom of movement. Another popular kind of ankle support is one that appears to be much like a bandage.

An ankle support with compression increases blood flow and decreases swelling. Such an ankle support is ideal for individuals who have suffered ankle injuries previously.

Ankle Sleeves

Compression ankle sleeves relieve pain in a stiff, injured or weak ankle and increase blood circulation. This helps the ankle heal faster, and also relieves pain from conditions such as strains at the calf or Achilles tendon, and from soreness or swelling in the foot following sports activities or ankle injury.

Ankle sleeves can be worn over either the right or left ankle, and can be worn inside shoes.

They are often infused with copper technology, which is known to help replenish cartilage that has been eaten away by arthritis. Typically comprised of a moisture wicking, lightweight fabric, these are commonly worn by not only by athletes during and after rigorous physical activities, and are also worn by ordinary individuals and seniors for everyday wear.

How Long Should an Ankle Sleeve be Worn for?

Compression ankle sleeves should be worn for up between 6-8 hours at a time. When in a prone position, the circulatory system isn’t fighting gravity, and the pressure on your ankle can cut off circulation. Therefore, unless recommended to do so by a healthcare professional, ankle sleeves should never be worn to sleep.

Ankle Wraps

Ankle wraps provide the ankle with crucial compression to reduce and prevent swelling in the area. They don’t offer as much support as ankle sleeves and braces, but are better than nothing. An ankle wrap usually fits into your regular shoe.

What’s the difference between an ankle wrap and an ankle sleeve?

An ankle sleeve is similar to a toeless sock, but it only reaches from immediately above the ankle until mid-arch of the foot. An ankle wrap offers the same coverage, but isn’t comparable to a sock; it’s more like a wrap-around bandage. When applying the wrap to the ankle, take care to ensure that you don’t wrap it too tightly, since doing so can cut off circulation.

Knee Support

Provide your knee with the support it needs by choosing a knee support product that will relieve knee pain and protect from re-injury. Choose from knee splints, knee immobilizers, knee wraps, and other knee support products.

Hinged Knee Brace

The hinges on each side of the knee provide optimal support; even more than a classic knee sleeve will offer. The hinged knee brace limits the movement of an injured knee, keeping it aligned while providing it with support and allowing it to heal. Knee braces also increase the strength capability of the knee.

The compression provided by the hinged knee brace improves blood flow and prevents the knee from swelling. It also relieves pressure in the knee that’s caused by arthritis.

There are three types of hinged knee braces; rigid ones, regular ones, and soft-hinged ones. Regular hinged knee braces are ideal for those suffering knee sprains, slight meniscus injuries, osteoarthritis, and other moderate knee injuries. In contrast, rigid hinged knee braces offer extreme support, and are used by individuals who need as much support as possible. Soft-hinged knee braces come with a knee sleeve or wrap for compression.

Hinged knee braces are offered in a variety of sizes, and are comprised of a breathable material for a more comfortable and pain relieving wearer’s experience.

Knee Wraps

Knee wraps protect, support and reduce stress on the knee during and following sports activities. They are worn by powerlifters, bodybuilders and individuals who have suffered a knee injury.

Knee Sleeves

Knee sleeves are designed to protect the knees from future injury. The compression offered by knee sleeves helps with promoting proper blood circulation, relieves knee pain, and keeps your knee from swelling. Knee sleeves are less restrictive than knee wraps, and allow for a greater range of movement.

Unlike knee braces, knee sleeves should not be used if your knee was injured previously. They are only meant for a relatively healthy knee.

Knee Immobilizer

A knee immobilizer, aka knee splint, is a knee brace that prevents the knee joint from bending or moving at all. It is most often used either post knee surgery or following a leg injury to prevent movement which can lead to re-injury. It keeps everything in place, and allows the area to heal.

The aforementioned types of knee support products are among the best options for many knee problems.

Heel Support

Heel pain is very uncomfortable. Start using our heel support products so that you can finally stop feeling the pain.

What Can Cause Heel Pain?

The following are a few conditions that can cause your heel to hurt.

  • Plantar Fasciitis
  • Heel injury
  • Blisters
  • Uncomfortable shoes
  • Stress fracture
  • Tendonitis (aka Achilles tendinosis)
  • Arthritis
  • Nerve irritation
  • A cyst
  • Heel bursitis
  • Tarsal tunnel syndrome
  • Heel bumps
  • Sever’s disease

If you’re suffering from any of these conditions, heel support products, such as heel cups, heel protector boots, or Darco Heel Wedge Shoes, may be what you need to get back on track.

Heel support cups raise the heel slightly, and, by doing so, relieve pressure on it.

Heel protector boots also lessen the pressure on the heels, thereby preventing pressure damage.

Heel protector shoes, such as the Darco Heel Wedge Shoes, significantly reduce heel pressure (by over 26%), and keep the foot protected. The Darco Heel Wedge Shoes, specifically, provide much-needed heel support by shifting the person’s weight from the heel area to the middle and front of the foot.

Whether you’re interested in knowing your knee support options, such as the Futuro Knee Brace and similar products, or you’re looking into heel or ankle support choices, at AvaCare Medical, there’s something supportive to suit your needs.

We also carry many other support products, including arm and shoulder support, back and neck support, elbow support products, and much more.
